We met up last night to work on the extruder. We have been using the natural HDPE and the results are good. The material is much stronger and flexible compared to when we were just using the HDPE colorant. Our motor is still under powered but instead of buying a new motor just yet, we are going to try gearing it down. A 2:1 reduction will double our torque and half our speed. The gears will be 3D printed (not sure if they will be strong enough but its an easy test) and we will use the same motor. Our extrusion speed will go down but at least we will have some results.
We also cleaned up some space for the company and our project. Check out the pictures https://osprintingllc.com/2012/11/27/new-project-space/
We have entered the Fedex grant contest. This is a small business grant worth $25,000! This would help us go from hobbyist to full time on this project and this company. So please vote for us Here. You can vote once a day and any help would be great. Vote early and Vote often!!! Thank you
We had a Spectralight 0400 given to us by Norwich University. This is a nice little tabletop cnc lathe. Right now we are not sure what works or what does not. We actually still need to pick it up. I just thought that this would be a good chance to document the revival of this machine.
Initial research shows that this machine requires a special card for a computer and the software is old and outdated. I doubt the school still have the card for it or any of the software. I was able to find some specs on it. The machine was manufactured by Light Machines Corporation but was later bought out by Intelitek. They had some information on the machine. I was able to find some blogs on people reviving machines like this but they lacked any in depth data. Right now, I am thinking that the easiest thing would be to replace the electronics and run a newer software. I found this board and it runs with Mach3. This would be $250 fix and assuming all the steppers and spindle motor worked. We would be up and running fast.
We have a new Web store that is run using Paypal. This gives us the option to sell more and combine shipping easier. Check it out at store.osprintingllc.com.
We have also changed how we package things. We now sell plastics in 2lb and 4lb increments and colorant. To make colored plastics when you extrude, you mix natural plastic (no color) with colorant. That is why when you order colored plastic, you get 2lb or 4lb of natural plastic and 2-4oz of colorant. You can also order just the colorant to add to your recycled batches. Right now we are focusing on ABS and HDPE, but we will be adding more later as we sort through our inventory and purchase more.
If you have any questions please ask. The eBay store will soon reflect the same changes.
We are working on updating the website and our eBay store. I’m sorry if this causes you any hassle. Thank you
